Academic solidarity powered by the University of Bucharest for sustaining education in Kyiv Academic solidarity powered by the University of Bucharest for sustaining education in Kyiv ============================================================================================= CIVIS Highlights 6 Μαρτίου 2026 The University of Bucharest announces a new solidarity initiative to support ‘Taras Shevchenko’ National University of Kyiv. The donation campaign is aimed at helping ensure the continuity of teaching, research, and student life at the Kyiv institution. ![](https://civis.eu/storage/files/ucraina-engleza.jpg)The campaign focuses on collecting critical electrical and electronic equipment needed for universities operating under conditions of unstable infrastructure and frequent power outages. Items requested include: - power banks - cables - portable batteries - voltage stabilizers - generators These resources are vital for keeping courses running, supporting examinations, and enabling academic activities to take place safely despite recurring electricity disruptions. In addition to equipment donations, individuals and institutions wishing to provide **financial assistance** may contribute to the dedicated accounts of the *Virtute et Sapientia* Foundation. All funds will be directed toward purchasing essential equipment for the University of Kyiv. The donations - both material and financial - offer direct support for sustaining education as a form of resilience, stability, and hope. Education as a Form of Resilience --------------------------------- The University of Bucharest highlights that in times of uncertainty, access to electricity is more than a technical matter - it is a lifeline for students and faculty striving to maintain academic normalcy. Ensuring stable power supply means enabling learning to continue, preserving community connections, and keeping academic missions alive under extreme circumstances. UB’s rector, professor Marian Preda, explains: > *Education does not stop in the face of adversity. As a university, we believe it is our duty to stand beside our academic partners and contribute in concrete ways to keeping the light of education alive* With this initiative, the University of Bucharest reaffirms its commitment to international academic solidarity, grounded in shared values of responsibility, cooperation, and mutual support across borders. ### Support the campaign The university community, institutional partners, and all individuals who wish to join the effort are welcome.
